80 in x 160 in - From the Filigree series - Acrylic and sumi ink on hanging cut papers

I seem to be on a kick for revisiting artists that I have previously featured. :D  I have really enjoyed looking back through old posts and finding how each artists work has evolved. I featured a piece, Growth I, by Katherine Mann in 2008, and I was thrilled to find new work from her in my inbox.

Baby, It's Over - mixed media

If this work looks familiar, it might be because Gary Taxali’s illustrations have appeared in many magazines as well as Amiee Mann’s album art.  Taxali’s illustrations have a rich inviting quality about them that draw me in to tell me their story.

20 Most Popular Posts on Today in Art in 2009

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

With the year drawing to a close we naturally reflect on the past year. 2009 has been kind to this little blog and I look forward to what 2010 may bring. I aggregated a list of the 20 most visited posts from 2009 from the stats and this is what I found. Oddly enough, some were pretty recent, and some were from last year. I decided to include the ones from last year as well since I have many new readers.

5 Creative Band Poster Illustrations That You Probably Have Not Seen

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Below are some band posters that I found while browsing for artists on Deviant Art.  These examples were both creative in concept and executed very well. I guess the fourth one isn’t technically an illustration, but I felt it was too good to pass up.  Enjoy!

Optimism in learning how to fly - by Miki Sato

Monday, April 13th, 2009

I read about a great artist on drawn.ca over the weekend and had to include a feature here.  Miki Sato creates textures rich images with

many found surfaces and textiles creating a uniquely three dimensional and tactile piece.

The work feels influenced by Sato’s sense of illustration and has a wonderful organic feel.  Checkout the site for more great work.

mixed mediums on canvas - 54×64 inches

Again a piece that I am certain would be amazing in person.  I really enjoy the movement and texture in these pieces.  Vincent actually sent me another piece to feature, but I fell in love with these works.  Examples of the new work by Vincent Romaniello are here.
